Stories of Survival: Challenges and Healing
Practices Working with People Affected by the
Indian Residential School System
Through pictures, storytelling and open dialogue, participants will see the present day reality of inner-city people affected by the Indian Residential School System.
This half-day workshop is hosted by REACH Edmonton and facilitated by Ken Armstrong and Leanne Warrenchuk.
About the Facilitators: Ken Armstrong is an Indian Residential Schools Resolution Health Support Worker at Boyle Street Community Services. He has worked with homeless and Aboriginal populations for 10 years, and is an intergenerational survivor of the Residential School System. He is a member of the Sagkeeng First Nation in Manitoba. Ken is also an award-winning photojournalist.
Leanne Warrenchuk is an Indian Residential Schools Resolution Health Support Worker at Boyle Street Community Services. Her educational background is in anthropology and Social Work, and she has been working with the inner-city Aboriginal population in Edmonton for 10 years.

Historic Trauma & Aboriginal Client Services
This workshop will focus on a detailed description of historic trauma and how it shapes Aboriginal client behaviour. From this perspective, best practices for providing Aboriginal client services will be explored. The group will also discuss best practices for providing client services grounded in this understanding of the core issues.
This half-day workshop is hosted by REACH Edmonton and facilitated by Dr. Patti LaBoucane-Benson.
About the Facilitator:
Dr. Patti LaBoucane-Benson is the Director of Research, Training and Communication with Native Counselling Services of Alberta.
